Iran’s Velayati, Syria’s FM Meet in Damascus
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem and the visiting International Adviser to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ali Akbar Velayati in a Sunday meeting conferred on the latest developments in the war-torn Arab country.
According to the official Syrian news agency (SANA), Muallem said that the effective campaign of the Syrian Army, the Russian Air Force, and the other true regional allies of the Syrian nation made clear to everyone which party is truly fighting against the terrorists in Syria.
Velayati had earlier met with President Bashar Assad.
At the meeting held in Damascus, President Assad underlined that the Syrian military continues to achieve victories on the battlefield against Takfiri terrorists across the Arab country thanks to the supports of two “friendly” countries, namely Iran and Russia.
The Syrian president also expressed his gratitude for the prudence of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and his support for Damascus.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including the ISIL, currently controlling parts of it.
According to the United Nations, more than 250,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflict.
In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
