Iran’s Deputy FM in Beirut to Discuss Regional Issues, Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian arrived in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Wednesday to hold talks with the Arab country’s high-ranking officials on regional issues and bilateral ties.
Upon his arrival at Beirut International Airport, Amir Abdollahian was warmly welcomed by Iran's charge d'affaires in Beirut Mohammad Sadeq Fazli.
During his visit, Amir Abdollahian is scheduled to meet with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and confer on the latest regional developments, including the ongoing crisis in Syria.
Tehran-Beirut mutual relations will be also on the agenda of his talks with Lebanese officials.
On Tuesday, the Iranian deputy foreign minister also held talks with Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian president’s special representative for Middle Eastern affairs, and discussed the latest developments in Syria.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including ISIL, currently controlling parts of it.
According to the United Nations, more than 250,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflict.
In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
