UN Asks Iran to Help for Diplomatic Solution to Syria Crisis
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has asked Iran to exercise its influence and help for a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.
During a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the fringes of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, Ban "reiterated that there is no military solution to the conflict and asked Iran to exercise its influence in promoting a political solution," his office said.
The two sides also discussed the ongoing crisis in Yemen, where the UN is trying to revive peace talks among warring factions.
Elsewhere, Ban called on all parties involved in the Iranian nuclear agreement to implement "in good faith" the July 14 accord, according to a statement from his office, AFP reported.
Elsewhere, Ban "underscored the need for Lebanon's presidential vacuum to be filled as quickly as possible," the statement added.
