TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian who is in Moscow for an official visit conferred with his Russian counterpart on latest developments in Syria, Yemen and Palestine.

At the meeting, Amir Abdollahian and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, who is also the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s representative in Middle Eastern and African affairs, consulted on the latest political ideas for resolving the crisis in Syria.

The Iranian diplomat also briefed Russian officials on the latest consultations with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

He also described Assad’s “constructive” ideas for the resolution of the Syrian crisis as “praiseworthy”.

The two countries also underlined the ineffectiveness of security and military approaches in Syria and urged political solution to the issue.

They also highlighted political solution based on joint efforts by people, government and those opposition parties who believe in political solution and serious confrontation with terrorism.

Iran and Russia, known as the main allies of Syria, have redoubled efforts in recent weeks to find a solution to the crisis that has plagued the Arab country for more than four years.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists, including militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group, currently controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

More than 220,000 people have been killed in the four-year conflict that has driven 4 million refugees abroad.
