Iran's Zarif, Pakistan's Sharif Discuss Expansion of Economic Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Thursday held a meeting with Pakistan’s Premier Nawaz Sharif on the ways to promote mutual cooperation, particularly in the economic field.

During their meeting in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, the two sides stressed the necessity for closer cooperation between Iran and Pakistan, especially after the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers in Vienna on July 14.

Zarif and Sharif also exchanged views on finding political and diplomatic solutions to regional problems.

The Iranian minister arrived in Pakistan on Thursday morning as part of his new regional tour started on Tuesday.

During his one-day trip, Zarif will also hold meeting with Pakistani Premier’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.

Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Raza Rabbani are among other officials Zarif is expected to meet.

Later in the day, Zarif is due to attend a joint session with members of Pakistan National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee. He will also hold a joint press conference with Sartaj Aziz before leaving Islamabad on Thursday afternoon.

Zarif on Tuesday started a new tour of regional countries by visiting Lebanon and Syria. After visiting Pakistan, he is also due to pay an official visit to New Delhi, India.
