Iran, IAEA Discuss Ways to Settle Differences over Nuclear Issue

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – High-ranking officials from Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held technical meeting in Tehran on Monday as part of efforts to resolve two remaining issues over Tehran’s nuclear activities.

The meeting was held on Monday in line with the third stage of cooperation between Iran and the UN nuclear agency.

The one-day talks are aimed at resolving two remaining issues in a string of steps Iran has taken to cooperate with the UN nuclear watchdog.

Providing "information and explanations related to studies made and/or papers published in Iran in relation to neutron transport and associated modeling and calculations and their alleged application to compressed materials,” and “the allegations related to the initiation of high explosives, including the conduct of large-scale high-explosives experimentation” in Marivan region are the two remaining issues discussed in the meeting.

The talks was co-chaired by IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards Tero Varjoranta and Iran’s Ambassador to the IAEA Reza Najafi.

Earlier on Sunday night, Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi had said that efforts to put an end to those two subjects is “not an unlimited process,” stressing that talks should come to a conclusion.

Iran has already started taking transparency measures within the framework of an agreement it signed earlier with the agency.
