Iranian MP: US Military Action against ISIL “A Show”

“If the US really wants to act against the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), it should first target the terrorist group’s training bases in some regional countries,” Rapporteur of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is a militant group in Iraq and Syria believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries. The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

Naqavi Hosseini also said that if the US does not provide support for the ISIL, the group will be eradicated.

The Iraqi and Syrian people blame the US for the insecurity in their countries, he said, adding that “the people see no difference between the US and the ISIL.”

Earlier on Thursday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham also voiced doubt over the sincerity of the US-led coalition against the ISIL, saying, “The international coalition against ISIL which came to life after the NATO summit in Wales and is being shaped now, faces serious ambiguities and there is considerable doubt about its sincere and fundamental fight against terrorism.”

“Some of the countries in this alliance are among the sponsors and supporters of terrorists in Iraq and Syria while some others have failed to take on their international obligations amid hopes of making their favorable political changes in Iraq and Syria,” she reiterated.
