Iranian MP: Talks with Sextet Only Focused on Nuclear Issue

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker reiterated that Tehran will solely focus on nuclear issues in its negotiations with the six world powers.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Monday, Kazem Jalali, a member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, touched upon the possible issues that could be raised by representatives from the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) in their upcoming nuclear talks with Iran.

“They (representatives from G5+1) might address some issues (other than those relating to Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program),” he said, adding, “In that case, our negotiators will be vigilant.”

He also commented on the firm stances taken  up by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on the nuclear talks, saying that the leader has reiterated that the negotiations should focus on nuclear issues only.

On July 18, after more than two weeks of intensive diplomatic negotiations in Vienna, Iran and the six nations agreed to continue talks for another four months.

The two sides decided to extend the nuclear talks until November 24 in the hope of clinching a final deal. The four-month extension of the talks began on July 21.
