Attempts Underway to Keep Gaza in Dark: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Certain players in the Islamic world are trying to sink the ongoing tragedy in the Gaza Strip into oblivion, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) warned.

Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, who was attending the International Quds Day rallies in Tehran on Friday, deplored the lack of Muslim unity in supporting Palestine against the Israeli atrocities.

“Unfortunately, there are actors across the Islamic world that seek to keep the situation (Israeli attack on Gaza) silent, instead of creating unity and solidarity (among Muslims),” he noted.

In relevant comments earlier this month, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said the Israeli regime has taken advantage of “negligence” of Muslims to commit atrocities against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

“The Gaza incidents are utterly disastrous, and the Zionist regime (of Israel) is carrying out the current atrocities by taking advantage of the negligence of the Islamic world,” the Leader said.

Since July 8, Israel has been carrying out airstrikes as well as ground and naval attack on the besieged Gaza Strip.

Death toll from the 18-day Israeli strike on the densely populated enclave has exceeded 800, while 0ver 5,200 other Gazans have been injured.
