Iranian, Ukrainian FMs Stress Expansion of Relations
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ministers of foreign affairs of Iran and Ukraine in a meeting on the sidelines of Munich security conference expressed the two countries' determination for further expansion of bilateral relations.
During the meeting held in Munich on Friday evening, Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed satisfaction with the growing trend of bilateral relations and mutual cooperation, and stressed the necessity for utilizing the existing potentials for closer ties in economic, political and agricultural fields.
He said the capacities that have been created for cooperation after Iran’s nuclear agreement with the six world powers have provided proper opportunity for further activating bilateral relations.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara, for his part, said using the nuclear energy for peaceful purposes "is Iran’s legal right," and expressed the hope that continued talks between Iran and the world powers would result in final agreement between the two sides.
On the latest status of Tehran-Kiev relations, Kozhara said his country is determined to expand its relations with Iran within both nations’ interests.
He said Ukraine is prepared to hold the meeting of the two countries joint economic commission in the near future.
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani had on August 4 stressed his administration's determination to expand relations with Ukraine.
In a meeting with visiting Ukrainian prime minister here in Tehran at the time, Rouhani described Iran-Ukraine relations as "good and improving" in agricultural and industrial fields.
"In expanding economic relations we should ignore pressures imposed by other countries," he added.
