In comments at a weekly press conference on Monday, Baqaei said the credibility of the European troika as negotiating partners depends on demonstrating independence and good faith.
He stated that while the future of talks cannot be predicted, “experience is the best teacher.”
Over the past decade, the three European countries had failed to fulfill their JCPOA commitments and even misused the agreement’s dispute resolution mechanism in an attempt to restore UN Security Council resolutions against Iran, an action lacking both legal and moral justification, Baqaei said.
“The three European countries need to reconsider their policies and show the world that they are trustworthy actors in any future negotiations,” the spokesman emphasized.
Commenting on recent European actions and repeated anti-Iran statements, the spokesman said Iranian ambassadors had been recalled for consultations and have since returned to their missions after completing their tasks. “The latest statement from the three countries is repetitive and meaningless. These are cliché remarks devoid of goodwill,” Baqaei stated.
He also reiterated that Iran neither possesses nor seeks nuclear weapons, saying, “The insistence that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon is irrelevant. Iran does not have one and has no intention of building one.”
Baqaei further called on European governments to prove their independence and decision-making capability rather than acting under external pressure, noting that only through such behavior can they be regarded as credible negotiating partners.
