In a statement on Saturday, Esmaeil Baqaei strongly condemned the Zionist regime’s assault on the vessels of the Sumud humanitarian flotilla in international waters and its violent arrest of pro-Palestinian activists on board. He described the attack as a terrorist act aimed at perpetuating the imposed famine on Gaza, the ministry’s website reported.
He further pointed to the participation of nationals from 47 countries in the humanitarian campaign of Sumud that seeks to break the unjust blockade of Gaza and confront the ongoing genocide against Palestinians.
The Iranian spokesman underscored the need for all governments and the UN to support this campaign, hold the Zionist regime accountable, and secure the immediate release of the detainees.
Baqaei also noted that the detainees from the Sumud flotilla have been transferred to the notorious Ketziot Prison, known as a symbol of torture and inhumane treatment of Palestinian prisoners by the occupying regime.
He said the arrest of pro-Palestinian activists and their transfer to this facility, along with the insulting conduct of the Israeli security minister toward them, is yet another sign of the moral collapse of the Zionist regime.
Baqaei also voiced outrage at the continued support of the US and several other Western countries for the Israeli genocide against Palestinians, saying all governments bear a legal and moral responsibility to stop the genocidal war and to prosecute and punish the perpetrators of these crimes.
