Speaking to Fox News on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Pezeshkian stressed that Iran has never sought nuclear weapons, noting that such ambitions contradict the principles of the Islamic Republic and the fatwa of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Responding to US allegations, he dismissed claims about Iran’s nuclear program as unfounded. “We want to live in peace and security with all nations and our neighbors,” he said, underscoring dialogue as the only effective way to resolve disputes within the framework of international law.
Turning to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Pezeshkian expressed hope that negotiations could ease the blockade and bring relief to those suffering. “If talks can help end the hunger and suffering in Gaza, it would be a meaningful achievement,” he noted.
Addressing comments by US President Donald Trump on Israeli policies in the West Bank, Pezeshkian welcomed the acknowledgment that the Israeli regime must change its course. He condemned the humanitarian tragedies caused by Israeli actions, denouncing the regime for violating international law and inflicting immense suffering.
On nuclear energy, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s stance that its program is strictly peaceful. He affirmed Tehran’s willingness to allow international inspections to verify its activities and emphasized that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear arms.
Commenting on Iran’s uranium enrichment, which has reached 60%, he explained that this was a direct consequence of the US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The president highlighted the importance of mutual respect and justice in resolving regional conflicts. He condemned Israeli military actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, saying, “It is unacceptable to bomb innocent people and cause such devastation.” He added that genuine peace in the Middle East requires the Israeli regime to abide by international and humanitarian norms.
On the prospect of dialogue with Washington, Pezeshkian said Iran remains open to talks but distrust lingers due to past US actions. “Iran has never refused dialogue, but the behavior of the US has created deep mistrust among our leaders and people,” he stated.
Concluding his remarks, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to engage constructively with the international community. He emphasized that Iran does not seek conflict but will continue to defend its sovereignty and rights, striving for peaceful coexistence with neighbors and the wider world.
