Flights Canceled following Cable Fire at Stuttgart Airport
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Air traffic at Stuttgart Airport continues to face disruptions after a cable fire.
The first flights have already been canceled, a spokesperson for the airport operator said overnight.
"Passengers are advised to regularly check their flight status and stay informed with their airline," the airport's website stated, the DPA reported.
On Wednesday evening, the airport temporarily suspended operations. According to the operator, the cable fire broke out in a service building away from the terminals. Passengers were not directly affected by the blaze. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain unknown, the spokesperson added.
Flight operations were completely suspended for about an hour on Wednesday evening, the spokesperson reported. The fire disrupted parts of the airport's power supply, which, for example, affected runway lighting. All departures from Stuttgart were canceled.
Later in the evening, the runway was cleared for use again, according to the operator, allowing arrivals to resume. In the meantime, some incoming flights were diverted to other airports and landed unscheduled in cities such as Nuremberg, Munich, or Frankfurt. Others were permitted to land in Stuttgart after the regular closing time of 11:30 p.m. with special authorization.
No one was injured in the cable fire. However, two firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precaution and examined for smoke inhalation, according to reports.
The airport's website indicated that scheduled arrivals experienced delays in the evening, and some were canceled entirely. All departures from 7:50 p.m. onward were suspended, as shown in the overview.
