No Doubt about Peaceful Nature of Iran’s Nuclear Program: Spokesman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei dismissed recent remarks by Cypriot officials against Iran’s nuclear program, describing them as part of a “stale narrative” promoted by the Zionist regime and European governments.
He stressed that the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program is beyond any doubt and that such accusations are “baseless and unfounded.”
Baqaei also said talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are ongoing following a recent visit to Tehran by the agency’s deputy director.
He explained that the discussions focused on drafting a new framework for cooperation after attacks against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
“Talks were held and they will continue in the coming days,” he noted.
Addressing the letter sent by three European countries to the UN about the so-called “snapback” mechanism, Baqaei stressed that Europe has “no right to use this tool” and any attempt to do so is illegal.
He added that the three European states failed to meet their own commitments under the nuclear deal and never condemned the US and Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites.
“They did not even provide a logical explanation for their positions,” Baqaei said.
He slammed the Europeans for seeking only to maintain a “destructive role” in Iran’s nuclear issue while acting in line with Zionist interests.
“We never stopped talks with them,” Baqaei stated. “But they must clarify whether they intend to play a constructive role or a negative one that serves the Zionist regime.”
On future talks, Baqaei confirmed that Iranian officials remain in contact with their European counterparts but no date has been set for the next round of negotiations.
