Multiple heavy explosions were heard in northern, western and central Tehran in the early hours of Friday.
The flights have been cancelled at the Imam Khomeini international airport of Tehran.
Images circulated in the social media show damages to a number of residential buildings in the Iranian capital.
The attack came two days before a new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US.
The Iranian officials had already warned that any wrong military action will draw Iran’s firm and definite response.
