President Urges Maritime-Oriented Development in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President Masoud Pezeshkian described maritime-oriented development in Iran as a remedy for the pressing environmental challenges.

The president chaired a meeting in Tehran on Monday, held to define the charter of a new organization for maritime-oriented development programs in the coasts of Makran.

Pezeshkian stated that all big cities in Iran, above all Tehran, are grappling with multiple environmental problems, particularly the water shortage.

“Maritime-oriented development is the way to save the country from the crises that the threats like water shortage may pose to the major cities,” he said.

In December 2024, President Pezeshkian said arrangements have been made with the help of internationally-renowned consultants to draw up a grand plan for developing the coasts of Makran, located in southeast of the country.

He described the coasts of Makran region as the most important foundation for sustainable and long-term development in Iran, saying the country’s future is tied to the development of this area.

Pasabandar, also known as the coasts of Makran, is located in Iran's southeastern region, next to the Oman Sea.

The strategic area has attracted the attention of many Iranian decision-makers and military officials, particularly after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for the development of the region.
