Hassan Yazdani to Change His Weight Class
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian freestyle wrestler Hassan Yazdani plans to change his weight class.
Yazdani, 29, won a gold medal in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 74kg and claimed two silver medals in 86kg weight class in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics Games.
He has recently undergone shoulder injury and will have to travel to Paris in late January to continue his treatment process.
“Rehabilitation is an important part of his recovery. We will decide about his weight class after he is completely fit,” Yazdani’s coach Hemmat Moslemi said.
According to Moslemi, Yazdani will compete in the 92kg in the world championship and will also change his category to 97kg in the 2026 Asian Games and 2028 Olympic Games.
Yazdani is the most decorated Iranian wrestler with eight world and Olympics medals.
