Iran Condemns Israeli Strikes on Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s recent military attacks that have taken dozens of lives in the residential areas of Damascus and destroyed Syria’s infrastructures.

In a statement on Friday night, Esmaeil Baqaei offered condolences to the government and people of Syria and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement as well as the families of the martyrs and wished swift recovery for the wounded.

He said the expansion of Israeli acts of aggression and crimes to the neighboring countries and Israel's repeated gross violations of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria constitute a blatant aggression.

It is necessary that the UN Security Council take immediate action to stop this aggressive act and hold the Israeli regime to account, he added, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Baqaei warned of the dire consequences of Israeli aggression against the civilian infrastructure of Syria and the massacre of innocent people, including women and children.

He condemned such acts as a clear violation of the international humanitarian law and an example of war crimes, noting that under the 1949 Geneva Convention, all governments have a duty to stop the acts of aggression and go after those who orchestrate and perpetrate the crimes.

Those who supply arms to the Zionist regime are an accomplice in its crimes, he added, saying the people of the region and the Muslims recognize the US as the biggest arms supplier and political supporter of the Zionists and an accomplice in their crimes.
