Iran, UN Weigh Plans to Assist Syria
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior adviser to the Iranian foreign minister and the UN Special Envoy for Syria discussed the latest developments in the Arab country and mulled over the plans to assist the Syrian people.
In a meeting on the sidelines of the 22nd round of the international expert meetings of the Astana Process in Kazakhstan’s capital, Ali Asghar Khaji and Geir O. Pedersen talked about the latest developments regarding the political, operational, and humanitarian conditions in the region and Syria.
The Iranian diplomat strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli genocidal crimes in Gaza and its aggression against Lebanon and Syria.
Khaji denounced the Israeli strikes on Syria as a serious threat to peace and stability in the Arab country and the broader region.
He also expressed Iran’s readiness to assist in the establishment of peace and stability in Syria, stressing the need for the United Nations and its relevant bodies, particularly the Security Council, to adopt a responsible and proactive stance to halt the Israeli crimes and violation of peace.
Khaji called for the mobilization of all international resources to deliver humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza and Lebanon, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Pedersen, for his part, expressed regret over the persistence and escalation of tensions in the region.
He stressed the need to support the Syrian and Lebanese refugees and advance political processes in Syria, including holding sessions of the Constitutional Committee.
