Iran Congratulates Turkey on National Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Iran congratulated Turkey on the 101st anniversary of declaration of the Turkish Republic.

A post released by the Iranian Embassy in Ankara on Tuesday offered Iran’s congratulations to the people and government of Turkey as a “brotherly neighbor” on the Turkish Republic Day.

The message also expressed hope that the bonds between the two nations would strengthen and thrive on the basis of mutual respect and sustainable friendship.

On October 29, 1923, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, officially declared the nation’s name and proclaimed the country's status as a republic.

The Turkish Grand National Assembly then voted unanimously to make Ataturk, a revolutionary statesman, the first president of the Republic of Turkey.
