Iran, France Discuss Truce in Lebanon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The presidents of Iran and France weighed plans to ensure a ceasefire between the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Zionist regime.

In a telephone conversation on Sunday evening, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron talked about the latest regional developments, including the heightened crisis in the south of Lebanon.

They also weighed plans to end the clashes and establish a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.

Highlighting Iran’s push for a safe region free of wars, Pezeshkian said Tehran always welcomes ceasefires and an end to the conflicts.

He noted that Iran exercised self-restraint after the cowardly Israeli assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran as the Western governments had promised an impending ceasefire in Gaza, but the Zionist regime intensified its campaign of bombardment and crimes in Gaza and even spread it into Lebanon without commitment to any moral or international principles.

Iran would welcome and support any initiative for peace, calm and stability in the region, he told Macron, asking the French president to join hands with the other Europeans to force the Israeli regime to stop its genocidal crimes against Gaza and Lebanon.

The Iranian president also hailed the French government’s recent “positive” move to condemn the Zionist regime’s atrocities in Lebanon and halt sales of arms to Israel.
