Iran, Russia's Presidents Meet in Turkmenistan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed hopes for the swift conclusion of a strategic partnership agreement with Russia during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ashgabat on Friday, calling for a faster move towards the signing of the "Strategic Partnership Agreement between Iran and Russia."
“I hope we can finalize this treaty during the BRICS summit in Russia,” Pezeshkian said.
Both leaders stressed the need to accelerate cooperation ahead of the BRICS summit.
The meeting highlighted growing cooperation between Tehran and Moscow. Pezeshkian described the relationship as “sincere and strategic,” emphasizing the importance of enhancing bilateral ties.
“Our economic and cultural relations are strengthening day by day," Pezeshkian stated, adding that the determination of both nations' leaders necessitates accelerating the upward trend in collaboration.
He noted that Iran and Russia have complementary capacities and can assist each other on various fronts. “Our positions in the world are much closer to each other compared to others,” Pezeshkian said.
He reiterated his hope for the quick signing of the strategic partnership document, underscoring the importance of expanding cooperation between the two nations. “I hope we can finalize this treaty during the BRICS summit in Russia,” he said.
Addressing regional tensions, Pezeshkian said the Zionist regime is disregarding international legal and humanitarian norms. He also criticized Western powers, stating, "European countries and the US do not want the region's countries to continue their relations in a peaceful environment."
Putin, in turn, affirmed that strengthening ties with Iran remains a top priority for Moscow. "Cooperation between the two countries is a high priority for us, and the development of relations and the increase in trade volume between both sides are progressing very well," the Russian leader said.
The Russian President also invited Pezeshkian to attend the upcoming BRICS summit, where they plan to hold a bilateral meeting. "We are cooperating together on an international level, and our global assessments and approaches are common," Putin said.
