Hezbollah Confirms Martyrdom of Commander in Israeli Airstrike
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Hezbollah has confirmed the assassination of senior commander Mohammad Hussein Srour in an Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, marking the fourth such targeted attack by Israeli regime in a week.
The Lebanese Resistance Movement, Hezbollah, has confirmed the martyrdom of Mohammad Hussein Srour, also known as Haj Abu Saleh, following an Israeli airstrike in Beirut's southern suburbs.
In a statement, Hezbollah said, "He was martyred on the path to Al-Quds as a result of a treacherous Israeli assassination operation in the southern suburbs of Beirut."
Srour, aged 51, was reportedly killed during Thursday's attack, making him the latest commander targeted by Israeli forces amid a string of recent assassinations.
The Israeli military, in a separate statement, acknowledged the strike, stating that its fighter jets "targeted and eliminated" Srour.
This marks the fourth Israeli strike in a week aimed at Hezbollah officials in the densely populated southern Beirut area.
According to Lebanon's Health Ministry, the attack claimed the lives of two people and injured 15 others, including a woman in critical condition.
The country's National News Agency reported that "three missiles" struck "a residential apartment in a 10-storey building."
A source close to Hezbollah revealed that Srour studied mathematics before joining the Islamic Resistance in 1986.
Hezbollah further stated that Srour participated in numerous resistance operations against the Israeli occupation and played a significant role in defending Lebanon's eastern borders from Takfiri attacks, as well as in operations across Syria.
In 2020, Srour took charge of Hezbollah's air force division and led military operations on the Lebanese support front in the Al-Aqsa Storm battle until his martyrdom, the statement added.
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continue across Lebanon. The latest reports from the Lebanese Health Ministry indicate that more than 700 people have been killed and over 1,800 wounded in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon since the Israeli escalation began on September 23, 2024.
