Iran to Produce over 20 Million Tons of Grains in 2024, FAO Predicts
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said Iran will produce more than 20 million tons of grains in the 2024-2025 Farming Year and will stand in the third rank in terms of grain reserves after China and India.
In its latest report on “World Food Outlooks” which is released twice a year, FAO predicted that Iran’s production of grain in the crop year will reach 20.1 million tons, showing a hike compared to a year earlier.
According to the estimate of this international body, Iran had produced 19.8 million tons of grain in 2023 and ranked as the 10th largest producer of grain in Asia.
As the largest producer of grains in Asia and the world, China produced 577 million tons of grains, followed by India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.
Iran’s import of grain in this period is estimated to be 14.9 million tons, FAO added.
Wheat is the most important grain produced in Iran. According to FAO, it is predicted that 13.5 million tons of wheat will be produced in Iran in the current crop year.
Iran produced 13.5 million tons of wheat in the 2023-2024 Crop Year, becoming the fifth largest producer of the strategic product in Asia after China, India, Pakistan and Turkey.
FAO also predicted that Iran will produce 2.6 million tons of rice in 2024, showing an 18 percent growth compared to a year earlier.
According to the report, Iran produced 2.2 million tons of rice in 2023 and ranked 13th among the largest producers of this product in Asia.
