Iran Expects to Produce Some 200,000 Tons of Pistachio in Current Year: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The vice chairman of board of trustees of the Iran National Pistachio Association predicted that between 150,000 and 200,000 tons of the fresh pistachio will be produced in the country in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2024).
Like the previous year, it is expected that 120,000 tons of the fresh pistachio will be exported from the country this year, Jalil Karbakhsh-Ravari stated.
He put the volume of the pistachio produced in the country last year (March 21, 2023 to March 19, 2024) at 200,000 tons, 120,000 tons of which, valued at between $900 million and $1 billion, were exported to the target markets and the rest were consumed at the domestic market.
He went on to say that 80 percent of the pistachios in the country is harvested from gardens in Rafsanjan, Kerman province, and the other 20 percent is harvested in the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, North Khorasan, Semnan, Yazd, Markazi, and Qazvin.
He called on the responsible officials to take effective steps in removing barriers facing the export of this product to the target markets, IRNA reported.
According to the available statistics released in the first two months of the current year (March to May 2024), more than one million tons of agricultural products, valued at $684 million, were exported from the country, showing a 24 and a 28 percent growth in weight and value respectively compared to last year’s corresponding period.
