SCO Hails Iran’s Role in Realizing Healthcare Goals

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A deputy secretary general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) lauded Iran for its “constructive and effective” role in advancing the healthcare and treatment objectives of the organization.

Iran’s membership in the SCO can help promote the health of a population of over three billion living in the member states of the organization, the deputy secretary general said.

Cooperation and interaction among the SCO members can be effective in materializing objectives in the health sector, such as controlling many communicable and non-communicable diseases and supplying healthy and safe drinking water, the official added.

The SCO was established with the signing of a declaration in Shanghai in June 2001 by six states, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Iran officially joined the SCO in July 2023.
