New Chapter Opens in Iran-Azerbaijan Ties: Amirabdollahian

In a meeting with his Azeri counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, held on the sidelines of an OIC meeting in Jeddah on Tuesday, Amirabdollahian said, "The Republic of Azerbaijan holds an important position in Iran's neighborhood policy, and the two nations share kinship ties beyond historical and neighborly connections."

The Iranian diplomat expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations, adding, "Fortunately, a new chapter has opened in the relations between the two countries, promising opportunities for mutual cooperation. There are many prospects for collaboration that benefit both nations."

Highlighting Tehran's policy to enhance relations with Baku in all fields, Amirabdollahian said Iran is ready to host the next meeting of the joint commission of the two countries.

He also underscored the importance of joint efforts and actions to make regional multilateral structures more active in advancing the common interests of regional countries, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

For his part, Bayramov described continuous bilateral consultations with his Iranian counterpart as useful and productive.

He said the Republic of Azerbaijan’s policy is to maintain close relations with its neighbors, and Iran holds a special position in this regard.

Pointing to the joint projects, Bayramov expressed hope that these projects would be implemented and come on stream as soon as possible.

The two senior diplomats finally discussed various regional development, including the crisis in Palestine.
