Iran, Pakistan Have Solid Ties: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Describing Iran’s recent attack on the base of terrorists at a border area on Pakistani soil as a response to an immediate threat, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson said the two neighbors enjoy strong and brotherly relations and respect each other’s sovereignty.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Monday, Nasser Kanaani said Iran launched a strike on the bases of the Jaish al-Adl terrorist group inside Pakistan on January 16 in order to combat an imminent threat, as the terrorists were gearing up for an operation against Iran.

The terrorists had gathered at a location that was only half an hour away from the common border, he noted, adding that action against the terrorist groups is a long-term purpose of the two neighbors for promoting cooperation.

“The relations between Iran and Pakistan are sturdy,” Kanaani said, adding, “The ties between the two countries are friendly and brotherly, as they respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Describing terrorism as a common threat to Iran and Pakistan, the spokesman said the two neighbors share views about the fight against terrorism.

Highlighting Iran’s sensitivity about its national security, Kanaani said the Islamic Republic behaves on the basis of friendly ties in its relations with neighbors and insists on the implementation of the bilateral agreements to ensure collective security.
