Iran, Norway FMs Discuss Bilateral Ties, Gaza War

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide, reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together and maintain ongoing bilateral contacts for mutual benefit.

In a telephone conversation, the diplomats delved into discussions on the latest developments in Palestine, and the ongoing Zionist atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank.

Amirabdollahian extended New Year greetings to Norway, underscoring the significance of maintaining strong relations and avoiding distractions from peripheral issues.

"We believe that the continuation of negotiations between Tehran and Oslo will significantly contribute to the expansion of relations in the areas of mutual interest," added the head of the Iranian diplomatic apparatus.

Addressing the Zionist regime's crimes in Gaza and the West Bank, Amirabdollahian praised the South African government's initiative to file a complaint against the Israeli atrocities, stating, "It is essential to halt the genocide against Gaza and the West Bank, and the humanitarian blockade must immediately come to an end."

He continued, emphasizing the strategic mistake of the United States' direct involvement in a war against non-combatants, women, and children in Gaza. Amirabdollahian warned, "If the killing of civilians continues, the scope of the war will expand. This warning is based on our understanding of the regional support for Palestine."

Referring to the commitment to maritime security, he highlighted Yemen's actions in support of the Palestinian people, stating, "Yemen is part of the reality and security of the West Asian region. Yemeni leaders, emphasizing maritime security, say they will only stop ships heading to the occupied territories that aim to spread war and send weapons."

In response to the terrorist incident in Kerman, Espen Barth Eide, the Norwegian Foreign Minister, expressed condolences to the government and people of Iran.

Eide emphasized the constant focus on developing relations between the two countries in Oslo, and he underscored, "Norway's official positions are declared by government officials."

The Norwegian Foreign Minister highlighted the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the initiation of a political process based on the formation of an independent Palestinian government. He welcomed Iran's constructive role in the region to reduce tensions.

Both sides mutually agreed to continue their contacts, consultations, and political discussions on matters of mutual interest.
