Over 800 Tons of Pomegranates Exported from Jolfa to EAEU Markets: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The director of Jolfa Department of Agriculture in northwest Iran said more than 800 tons of pomegranates were exported from Jolfa to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) this year.
Speaking in an interview with Mehr news agency, Reza Abbasi pointed to Jolfa County as one of the important hubs in the production of pomegranates and said 458 hectares of land area of this county have been allocated to the production of pomegranates.
He said that approx. 40 tons of pomegranates are harvested in each hectare of land area earmarked for this purpose.
More than 800 tons of pomegranates have so far been exported from the city in the current year (started March 21, 2023), and the Eurasian countries are the destination of the exported pomegranates, he stated.
The pomegranates harvested in Jolfa are unique in terms of quality and taste, Abbasi said, predicting a considerable growth in the production of pomegranates in the coming years with the transfer of modern-day knowledge to this city.
