Shahriar Afandizadeh pointed to the meeting of the Iran-Uzbekistan Transport and Transit Committee, held through videoconference, and said that the Uzbek transport minister voiced his interest in visiting rail, road and port infrastructures of Iran in the near future.

Deputy Transport Minister of Uzbekistan Mamanbiy Omarov and Iran’s ambassador to Uzbekistan also attended the virtual meeting, he said.

During the meeting, the officials exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in the road sector and the necessity of reducing transportation costs in the territory of the two countries, he stated.

Negotiating for finalizing the text of the trilateral agreement between Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan was the main topic discussed in the meeting, Afandizadeh added.

The two sides emphasized the need for the development of cooperation between Iran and Uzbekistan in the field of navigation and air transportation as well as increasing the number of weekly flights between the two countries, he said.

It is hoped that a new chapter will open for enhancing cooperation between the two countries following the upcoming visit of the transport minister of Uzbekistan to Iran, the deputy roads minister added.
