Non-Profit Group Urges World Leaders to Broker Gaza Ceasefire after Jabalia Attack
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) non-profit organization has issued a plea to the international community to facilitate a ceasefire in Gaza, with the aim of halting the ongoing bloodshed.
In a statement, Melanie Ward, the chief executive of MAP, characterized the recent attack on the Jabalia refugee camp as a "new low" and called on world leaders and politicians globally to take heed of the situation, according Al Jazeera.
Ward emphasized that international appeals for compliance with international law were being blatantly disregarded, and instead, Israel had escalated the intensity of its indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks.
MAP expressed deep concern for the well-being of Palestinians throughout Gaza, particularly the 400,000 individuals in the northern regions of the Strip. Ward stated, "The threat to their lives grows with each passing hour."
The Jabalia refugee camp, once a bustling residential neighborhood, was left in ruins by Israeli airstrikes. The attack resulted in casualties among Palestinians, with hundreds of injured individuals now receiving treatment at the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza.
The hospital has been inundated with patients and displaced persons who were forced to evacuate their homes. It was also disclosed that the Indonesian Hospital is on the verge of running out of fuel in the coming hours unless fuel shipments are delivered.
The densely-populated Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza bore the brunt of an Israeli attack that claimed the lives of at least 50 people and left many more injured. Search and rescue operations still continue in the aftermath of the devastating attack.
A nurse from the humanitarian group, Mohammad Hawajreh, shared the harrowing experiences of treating young children with deep wounds and severe burns. Many of these children arrived at the hospital without their families, desperately searching for their parents.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, condemned the ongoing violence and reiterated their call for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life in Gaza. In a statement, they stressed, "Enough is enough!"
