Iran’s Pharmaceutical Firms Produce over 97% of Needed Medicines: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) –Iran has saved more than $20 billion worth of currency in pharmaceutical industry, a member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Syndicate of Pharmaceutical Industries said, adding that the country is now able to produce more than 97 percent of medicines needed by patients.
Speaking in an interview with IRNA on Saturday, Morteza Kheirabadi said more than $20 billion worth of currency has been saved in the country since it managed to produce more than 97 percent of medicines inside the country.
Turning to the global coronavirus pandemic, he added that pharmaceutical companies managed to produce all the medicines needed by patients, and the country saved many lives during the pandemic.
He called on government officials to throw their weight behind pharmaceutical firms to materialize their objecitves in line with cutting dependency on importing medicines.
A number of domestic pharmaceutical companies have set up branch offices in some countries of the region which is a source of pride for the country, Kheirabadi further added.
