Iran, UN Discuss Efforts to Resolve Yemeni Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and the United Nations on Monday held virtual talks on the situation in Yemen and ways to end the crisis in the Arab country.

Within the framework of the consultations of the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to solve the crisis in Yemen and achieve sustainable peace in this country, Ali Asghar Khaji, a senior assistant to the minister of foreign affairs of the Islamic Republic for special political affairs, spoke with Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Representative for Yemeni Affairs, via video-link.

In this conversation, the two sides discussed the latest developments related to Yemen and exchanged views on the process of the Sana’a negotiations as well as the available solutions to solve the Yemen crisis.

While expressing his satisfaction with the recent openings, especially the direct negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Ansarullah in Sana’a, Khaji called for the removal of the existing obstacles to the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people, according to the website of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Hans Grundberg explained the measures taken by the United Nations to advance the peace talks in Yemen, and emphasized the necessity of continuing political talks with the aim of building trust and reaching an agreement between the parties.
