Neighbors Eye Investing in North-South Corridor: Iran Roads Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s minister of roads and urban development said neighboring countries are keen on investing in the North-South Corridor.

Speaking on the sidelines of the International Conference on Coasts, Ports and Marine Structures (ICOPMAS 2022) on Tuesday, Mehrdad Bazrpash stated that long-term investment at the ports is the main approach taken at the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi.

Turning to the interest of Persian Gulf littoral states and the country’s northern neighbors in the completion of the construction operation of the North-South and East-West corridors, he said that talks with foreign companies for the completion of this strategic corridor have been put atop the agenda.

The roads minister put the length of the coastal roads in the southern part of the country at 550 kilometers, the completion of which will play a leading role in the sea-based economy.

With the planning made in this regard, the construction operation of the coastal roads, mainly in Sistan and Balouchestan province, will be terminated before the termination of the current administration, he said.

He went on to say that Indian companies have also shown high interest to play a key role in the completion of the construction operation of the Chabahar Port.
