Iran Appoints Envoy to UAE after 7 Years
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran appointed Reza Ameri as its new envoy to the United Arab Emirates, ending a seven-year absence of an ambassador in the country.
Ameri previously served as the director general of the Iranian expatriates' office at the Foreign Ministry, as well as Iran's ambassador to Algeria, Sudan, and Eritrea.
The UAE downgraded its relations with the Islamic Republic in 2016 after Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Iran.
However, Iran and Saudi Arabia recently agreed to restore their diplomatic relations after a seven-year break, with the reopening of their embassies expected soon, according to a China-mediated agreement.
