Iran Cautions IAEA against Influence of Hegemons
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called on the International Atomic Energy Agency to maintain an unbiased and professional attitude without being influenced by hegemonic powers.
In a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, held in Tehran on Saturday, Raisi reiterated Iran’s opposition to WMDs, including nuclear weapons, saying such a stance is rooted in adherence to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution's fatwa regarding nuclear weapons being religiously forbidden.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran expects the approach of the Agency's activities in Iran to be completely professional and not to be influenced by domineering powers," Raisi added.
The president referred to the records of Iran's extensive cooperation with the IAEA, emphasizing the need for professional and impartial performance and the independence of the IAEA's vote.
Raisi stated that Iran had the highest level of cooperation with the IAEA based on good faith and faithfulness, the president’s website reported.
"Some countries, America and the Zionist Regime at the head of them, have used the nuclear issue as a pretext to put more pressure on the people of Iran, while this regime does not adhere to any international pact regarding the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons," he added.
Slamming the United States as the first violator of the nuclear agreement by withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the president added, "The Europeans also did not fulfill their obligations in this agreement, while Iran adhered to its obligations and this adherence was approved more than 15 times in the Agency's reports."
Referring to the talks between Grossi and the Iranian authorities in Tehran, the president expressed hope that the IAEA would act based on professional and fair behavior and respect the principle of neutrality to state the reality of Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and clarify the country's adherence to the law.
For his part, Grossi expressed satisfaction with the trip to Iran and especially the meeting with the Iranian president, calling the cooperation between Iran and the IAEA a long-standing and positive one.
Today, the use of nuclear energy is an indispensable necessity for people's welfare, Grossi added, hailing as constructive and positive his recent talks with the Iranian officials.
