Maximum Pressure Policies against Iran Have Ended in Failure, MP Says
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy underscored the failure of the so-called maximum pressure policies against the Islamic Republic and dismissed any deadlines in the ongoing talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.
Speaking to Tasnim, Abolfazl Amouei said Iran rejects any deadlines in the negotiations, urging the Western side, especially the Europeans to play a constructive role in the talks.
The West, the Europeans in particular, must carry out the 11 commitments they had undertaken in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and change their approach so that the talks will get back to the right track.
He noted that if Iran’s national interests are secured in the negotiations, the country will implement its undertakings after verification of the removal of the sanctions.
The new round of talks between Iran and P4+1 – Russia, China, the UK, France and Germany - on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal and the termination of sanctions on Tehran restarted in Vienna on Monday.
The JCPOA negotiations resumed after the parties took a three-day break for the New Year.
Representatives of Iran and the P4+1 group began the eighth round of the Vienna talks on December 27 focused on the removal of all sanctions imposed on Tehran after Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the agreement. The US is not allowed to directly attend the talks due to its pullout in 2018 from the landmark deal with Iran.
