Coronavirus Deaths in Iran Surpass 126,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has exceeded 126,000, the Health Ministry said.

Figures released by the ministry on Saturday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 128 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 126,126.

According to the statistics, 6,809 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 1,083 of them hospitalized.

More than 5.49 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 5,916,200 who have contracted the disease, the Health Ministry added.

Some 3,942 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

It also said that more than 52.37 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 33.67 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 246 million and the death toll has exceeded 5 million.
