Syria Air Defenses Intercept Israeli Missiles over Aleppo: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Several missiles fired during Israeli airstrikes against Syria’s northwestern province of Aleppo were intercepted by the Arab country’s air defense units.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported the development on Monday, citing a military source, specifying the whereabouts of the attack as the al-Safirah District in the southern countryside of Aleppo’s provincial capital that bears the same name as the province itself.

“Around 23:37 (local time) on Monday 19.7.2021, the Zionist enemy targeted some positions in al-Safirah with several airstrikes,” the source said.

“Our country’s air defense force confronted the Zionist regime’s missile aggression, and the results of the attack is under investigation,” it added.

SANA released footage of the incident that showed the Israeli projectiles exploding midair after interception.

Syria and the Israeli regime are technically at war due to the latter’s 1967-present occupation of the Arab country’s Golan Heights.

The Israeli regime maintains a significant military presence in the territory, which it uses as a launchpad for its attacks on the Syrian soil.

The attacks started to grow significantly in scale and frequency after 2011, when Syria found itself in the grip of rampant foreign-backed militancy and terrorism.

Tel Aviv claims that its attacks target alleged supplies that are headed for the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah. On countless occasions, though, the strikes have targeted the reinforcement belonging to Syria’s military and its allies.

The regime has also been providing safe passage and medical treatment to the Takfiri terrorists, who flee the allies’ defensive operations.
