In comments in the northern Iranian city of Semnan on Monday, Hamelmann said a remarkable decrease in the number of COVID-19 patients in the country signifies the appropriate measures taken in the fight against the viral disease.
He added, however, that a substantial reduction in the positive cases does not mean an end to the coronavirus or a halt to the battle with the disease.
While the reopening of public places in various parts of the world has led to an increase in the number of coronavirus cases, Iran has been able to control the situation after reopening, Hamelmann said.
The WHO representative also hailed Iran’s praiseworthy measures to inform the public about the disease.
On Monday, Iran’s Health Ministry spokesman said more than 121,000 coronavirus positive cases in the country have fully recovered from the infectious disease and left the hospital.
