Iran’s Income from Health Tourism Hits $1bln: Deputy Minister
ARDABIL (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi said the country has earned more than one billion dollars in revenues from health tourism.
Speaking to Tasnim on the sidelines of the 2nd Conference and Exhibition of Health Tourism for Economic Cooperation Organization in the northwestern city of Ardabil on Wednesday, Harirchi said, “Fortunately, over the past ten years, we have witnessed a 15-fold increase in the number of health tourists.”
The number of health tourists visiting Iran has risen from 20,000 in 2007 to 300,000 this year, the top official noted.
Harirchi went on to say that the total revenues earned from health tourism have reached 1.2 billion dollars.
Iranian experts have in recent years made great headways in using modern medical technology to cure a broad range of diseases inside the country, making Iran a top destination for health tourism.
Medical tourists from neighboring countries mostly come to Iran for transplants, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and dentistry.
