Over 130 Saudi-Backed Militants Killed, Injured in Hudaydah: Source

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s army and fighters from popular committees stepped up their attacks on Saudi-backed militants in Hudaydah, killing and injuring more than 130 of them in the impoverished Arab country’s western coastal city, a military source said.

Yemeni troops Friday targeted the positions of Saudi-sponsored militants across Hudaydah, claiming the lives of 45 of them, the source told Saba news agency on condition of anonymity.

The attack also left 85 militant wounded.

A military vehicle and a bulldozer belonging to the mercenaries were also destroyed during the attack, the report added.

The conflict has escalated significantly around Hudaydah city and eastern and southern areas of the governorate. Saudi-led airstrikes and shelling inflicted scores of civilian casualties. In October alone, 94 civilians were killed and 95 injured in Hudaydah.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE launched an offensive on June 13 to capture Hudaydah, the main entry point for food in a country teetering on the brink of famine.

The operation, however, came into an immediate halt in the face of stiff resistance by Houthi Ansarullah movement fighters and residents of the port city, which forced the kingdom to wind down the push.
