Dozens Killed In Daesh, Taliban Clash in Afghanistan's Nangarhar
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Several Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) and Taliban members were killed in the clashes between the two groups in eastern Nangarhar province in the past two days, local people said on Monday.
Clashes erupted when Daesh elements attacked Taliban bases in Tangi, Chappari, Wazir and Spin Ghar in the Khougiani district two days ago, eyewitness said.
In reaction, Taliban forces ambushed Daesh positions in the region on Sunday and the clashes continued by evening.
Several casualties for both Taliban and Daesh have been reported but the details have not been already released.
Nangarhar security officials have not yet commented on the issue.
Six Daesh members were killed in a recent clash with Taliban in the Chaparhar district in Nangarhar province.
Qari Hejratollah, the Pachiragam district governer has recently said that Daesh are fighting to seize the cave complexes in Tora Bora Mountains.
The longstanding conflict between the Taliban and Daesh has intensified in recent months.
In June 2017, Daesh declared war on the Taliban, describing the Afghan group as “hypocrites and stooges of the unbelievers.”
A few days later, Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Tasnim that the Taliban are resolved to target Daesh.
