Iranian Navy Kicks Off Massive Drills in Northern Waters

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Navy on Sunday began massive military exercises in waters of the Caspian Sea north of the country.

Defense

A huge number of naval forces aboard destroyers and military vessels are taking part in the drills, code-named “Sustainable Security and Power 96”.

During the five-day maneuver, new weapons, military systems, and equipment manufactured by the Iranian Defense Ministry will be unveiled or tested by the Navy.

A number of the Air Force’s fighter jets and air defense systems have also been deployed to the area to ensure the security of the drills.

Over the past few years, the Iranian Navy's forces have held several military drills in southern and northern waters.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stressing that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
