As part of the massive operation to liberate the Nineveh Province from the Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group, the Iraqi Rapid Reaction Brigade’s forces recaptured the al-Misaq neighborhood east of Mosul from the Takfiri militants.
In another development, the Iraqi Federal Police forces managed to fully retake the Sumar neighborhood also in the east of the embattled city of Mosul, the Arabic-language Alsumaria news agency reported.
Earlier this month, Commander of Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service Major General Abdel Ghani al-Asadi announced the start of the second phase of a massive operation that was launched on October 17 to retake Mosul.
Iraqi army and Popular Mobilization Units backed by Kurdish Peshmerga forces are continuing the operation to liberate the city from the foreign-backed terrorists.
Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city and the capital of Nineveh Province, fell into the hands of Daesh in June 2014.
