Iran’s Air Defense Deters Threats Beyond Borders: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Air Defense has such advanced gear that can detect and act against threats well before they could approach the country’s airspace, a top commander said.

Iran’s air defense systems have been developed in such a way as to detect threats before they could approach the borders and take immediate tactical action, Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said on Tuesday.

The commander also made it clear that his forces rely on homegrown systems.

The country’s air defense strategies are devised with an eye to contemporary threats, he went on to say.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Last month, the Defense Ministry unveiled new aerial navigation and tracking systems, including two military radars.

One of them, Me’raj-4, is a ground radar equipped with anti-electronic warfare systems and capable of tracking 200 targets.

The other one, dubbed Matla’-ol-Fajr 3, is employed for detecting targets in a range of 500 kilometers.
