Iran’s Trade with Azerbaijan Rises 65%: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The governor general of the northwestern Iranian province of Ardebil said the volume of trade exchange between Tehran and Baku has risen by over 60 percent.

The trade turnover between Iran and Azerbaijan over the past seven months has increased by 65 percent, Majid Khodabakhsh said, Azerbaijan’s Trend news agency reported late on Sunday.

Heading a provincial delegation, Khodabakhsh paid an official visit to the Azerbaijan Republic last week.

During the visit, the governor-general held talks with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Minister of Agriculture Heydar Asadov, and Minister of Emergency Situations Colonel-General Kamaladdin Heydarov as well as Head of Sumgayit City Executive Authority Zakir Farajov, the report added.

In his meetings, Khodabaksh pointed to opportunities for joint investment between Iran and Azerbaijan, saying that proper opportunities exist for enhanced ties between the two nations in various fields, including oil, gas, food and agriculture.

Ardebil exported about $57 million worth of products to Azerbaijan over the past year. Potatoes, poultry, ceramics and sanitary wares formed the majority of exported products to Azerbaijan from the Iranian province.
