Syrian Forces Recapture Industrial Area North of Aleppo

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Syrian military forces, backed by the voluntary and Kurdish fighters, regained control of al-Shokaief industrial area on the northern outskirts of Aleppo.

World

In an operation with the voluntary forces and with backup from the Kurdish military units, the Syrian troops could regain full control of the industrial area after flushing out the terrorist groups.

The industrial area lies in north of Aleppo, northeast of Sheikh Maghsoud neighborhood.

Elsewhere in Aleppo, fierce fighting is in progress between the Syrian Army and the terrorist groups in Bustan al-Pasha neighborhood, northeast of the city.

Aleppo, once Syria’s commercial and industrial hub, has been divided roughly in two parts since 2012, with the government controlling the west and terrorists the east.

In the meantime, Syria’s eastern city of Deir ez-Zur has also come under regular airstrikes by US-led forces in recent days.

Reports suggest that US-led warplanes have bombed six bridges around the city over the past four days alone.

Experts believe that destruction of the bridges is a tactic to impede the Syrian Army’s progress in the fight against terrorist groups in the eastern city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
